Meet Maria

Maria is a Warrenton resident running for Town Council. Originally from Connecticut, Maria aims to draw on her background as a journalist and advocate to help shape a prosperous future for Warrenton, while preserving the town’s historic charm.

Personal Life

The youngest of four siblings, Maria lives in downtown Warrenton with her rescue Lab-Husky mix, Lincoln.​ Maria is an active member of Warrenton and dedicates her time to multiple groups, programs and agencies.

Maria:

  • Leads a community initiative that provides free birthday bags for local children in need

  • Is a founding member and chair of Friends of the Warrenton, VA Dog Park, a volunteer group that fundraises and advocates for park improvements

  • Volunteers with the Fauquier Historical Society

  • Participates in a local writers’ group

  • Serves as an At-large Member of the Warrenton Police Community Action Team

  • Graduated from Warrenton Your Town Academy

Professional Life

Maria is a first-generation college graduate who earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Descriptive Linguistics from Central Connecticut State University. She spent five years in print journalism, rising through the ranks from reporter to editor-in-chief. She now serves as the Program and Communications Director for a local nonprofit that supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, and as the Communications and Events Coordinator for another local nonprofit that provides supportive services for local aging veterans.
